The walk from Spencer Street, along the promenade in front of the Crown Casino and heading towards Princes Bridge, you are faced with a glut of choices on where to eat. Italian, Japanese, fast food, fine dining and so much more.
Today a dear friend from interstate and something of a 'dining out virgin' chose Breslin because it didn't have live music (we needed to talk and catch up on 18 months of family life) plus the menu was simple to decipher.
We propped ourselves at a table for two on the promenade side instead of heading indoors which was enormous with enough tables to easily seat 100 guests. The weather was mild for winter, the only upside of climate change (unfortunately) and so it was comfortable outdoor weather even when it started to rain later in the afternoon.
The $25 lunch special had a number of main course choices which included a glass of house wine/beer/soft drink.
I had the lamb shanks, Janet had the burger - oh la la what delicious food and the perfect portion size. The chips with the burger where delicately cooked and not over salted. The burger once cut in half, easy to eat one bite at a time. The shank meat fell off the bone and the sweet sauce was 'finger licking good'.
Next came a bottle of bubbles  to celebrate our reunion and the wine list was extensive. We chose a Seppelts The Drive non vintage Chardonnay. Just what the doctor ordered.
But that's not all. We were tempted with dessert so I ordered the lemongrass creme brûlée and Janet the chocolate mud cake.
As the rain came down slightly dampening our table, we were joined by a friend and continued our reunion with a lot of laughter, great stories and all in a beautiful Yarra River view setting at Southbank.
    Staff were friendly and helpful.
Notes: recommend you make a booking for those busy periods of Friday and Saturday night as it does get busy, suitable for vegetarians or those with dietaries, restaurant is wheelchair friendly, kid friendly, and the parking is reasonable if along St Kilda Road or at a number of the undercover parking services.
Well worth a visit and I'm looking forward to working my way along the promenade and trying more of these interesting restaurants.

First time in Australia, I ordered the ribs eye steak with bones, and I asked medium rare, but my steak was like over cook like medium.....the service was very slowly, the waiter was not friendly...overpriced for everything in this restaurant.....

Very disappointing food quality.  I eat out 98% of the time so I try to limit the number of times I splurge on fatty foods.  I figured this was a good place to splurge as they looked like they specialize in meats.  I wanted a variety, so I ordered the tuna tartare, meatballs and pork belly.

The tuna tartare...flavorless. The wasabi was also weak and the sauce tasted watered down.  Also taking away points because they were not upfront and honest if the tuna was farmed or line caught.  For me, the more natural the better and prefer to stay away from farmed, artificial fish.

The meatballs...flavorless.  The meatballs were flavorless...the marinara sauce was flavorless and the cheese was flavorless as well.

The pork belly...flavorless.  I saved this for the end, expecting this would provide the strongest flavors.  I'm the kind of person that likes pork 24/7, but this tasted watery.  Like it had been frozen for ages and lost all signs of pork after being defrosted and cooked.  This is the first time I've ever been disappointed by pork belly!

It was quite a bit of food, and even though It's only been an hour since I finished, I came home feeling hungry and about to prepare myself something tasty to get that bland taste out of my mouth.

As we made our way to the Eureka 88 skydeck, we got hungry and decided to stop into Breslin due to their lunch specials. Not only is the food great but they include an alcoholic beverage with your meal. The service was ok as our waitress went missimg for a bit but no biggie. She made up for it by bringing us some delicious food.

This being a work function dinner I was not expecting as good of a meal, even for Southbank prices. However both the service and quality were on point.

Happy hour specials until 7pm during the week. Your standard pub favourites like chicken parma, burgers and chips along with other dishes like osso busco, steaks, pork belly, and fresh seafood.

We shared large cuts of calamari that were well seasoned. The spice paired with lemon aioli was a great start. I went with chicken Caesar salad which a lot of places don't get right. They did well with big cuts of lettuce, slivers of bacon, boiled eggs, croutons and just the right amount of dressing. Nice, juicy chicken with good flavour made this a filling meal.

The table seemed happy with their selection. Although the steaks were probably closer to average than other fine dining establishments, it was still a solid meal. That combined with great service makes this one of the better spots on riverside quay.
